Wanting to Leave Turkey: Not Only Economic Exhaustion, But Spiritual Exhaustion

Today, many people in Turkey are no longer exhausted only because of economic problems. Because the issue is not just money. The real issue is the mental atmosphere, the social energy, the decline in quality of life, the loss of aesthetics, respect, awareness, and meaningful human connection.

I am no longer simply someone who wants to earn more money.
I want to live among better human beings.
People who understand me…
People who touch my soul…
People who know how to be silent…
People who feel ashamed of harming nature…
People who do not destroy public spaces…
People who do not mistake shouting for strength…
People who do not constantly produce anger, fanaticism, and political toxicity.

Because what I have felt in Turkey for a long time is not merely an economic crisis.
It feels like a moral, intellectual, cultural, and institutional collapse.

When you go outside in Istanbul during a holiday, you can feel it everywhere.

Public transportation becomes free, and the entire system turns into an uncontrolled mass of people. Marmaray and metro lines begin to resemble the overcrowded train images seen in India or Bangladesh. People push against one another without respect for personal space. The noise never ends. Endless shouting, loud conversations, careless behavior toward public areas…

The coast of Üsküdar becomes covered with sunflower seed shells and garbage.
Nobody looks back.
Nobody asks:
“Why am I polluting this city?”

And this is exactly what exhausts the human spirit.

Because the level of a society is not measured only by skyscrapers or shopping malls.
The level of a society is measured by the respect people show toward one another, toward nature, and toward public space.

And sadly, Turkey has been experiencing a deep intellectual regression for many years.

The political culture that grew under the AKP era has been shaped by endless polarization, propaganda, emotional nationalism, and constant religious rhetoric. Yet true conservatism should require balance, humility, conscience, silence, and self-control.

But what emerged instead often became the exact opposite:
People constantly shouting…
Angry crowds…
Unquestioning fanaticism…
Leader worship…
Cities without aesthetics…
Disrespect toward nature…
And a harsh social energy in which everyone tries to dominate everyone else.

After a certain point, a person begins to feel spiritually suffocated.

Sometimes I think people in Turkey are exhausted not only economically, but mentally. There is a constant atmosphere of tension here. It feels as if society has forgotten how to live calmly. Forgotten how to speak quietly. Forgotten how to leave space for one another.

And that is exactly why countries like Nepal and Bhutan feel so different to me.

Yes, they are not economically rich.
Yes, they are not global powers.
But in the videos I watch, I see something else in the eyes of the people there:
More calmness…
More humility…
More love for nature…
More inner peace…
More respect…

This is exactly why Buddhist cultures attract me.

Because Buddhism does not feel like merely a religion to me.
It feels like a philosophy that tries to reduce the human ego rather than constantly inflate it.

In Turkey, however, there seems to be a culture that constantly glorifies ego:
The loudest person is perceived as the strongest.
The most aggressive person is perceived as the most powerful.
The rudest person dominates the environment.

But real strength is sometimes silence.
Real strength is living in harmony with nature.
Real strength is existing without crushing other people.

Perhaps this is why I increasingly want to leave this country.

Not only to live more comfortably…
Not only to earn more money…
But to protect my own soul.

Because human beings do not live only physically.
They also absorb the emotional and psychological energy of the societies around them.

And the energy I have felt in Turkey for a long time feels:
exhausted,
angry,
tense,
harsh,
fanatical,
and mentally burned out.

I want a little silence now.
A little nature.
A little respect.
A little awareness.
And most importantly…
an atmosphere where I can feel human again.

Maybe in Nepal…
Maybe in Bhutan…
Maybe somewhere else…

But one thing is certain:

Sometimes people want to leave not because they hate life,
but because they are trying to save their spirit before it disappears completely...

Türkiye’den Kaçmak İstemek: Sadece Ekonomik Değil, Ruhsal Bir Yorgunluk

Türkiye’de artık birçok insan yalnızca ekonomik nedenlerle yorulmuyor. Çünkü mesele yalnızca para değil. Mesele; zihinsel atmosfer, toplumsal enerji, yaşam kalitesi, estetik, saygı, bilinç ve insan ilişkilerinin giderek daha yorucu hâle gelmesi.

Ben artık sadece daha fazla para kazanmak isteyen biri değilim.
Ben daha iyi insanların arasında yaşamak istiyorum.
Beni anlayan…
Ruhuma dokunan…

Ve Türkiye’de uzun süredir hissettiğim enerji;
yorgun,
öfkeli,
gergin,
kaba,
fanatik
ve zihinsel olarak tükenmiş bir enerji.

Ben artık biraz sessizlik istiyorum.
Biraz doğa istiyorum.
Biraz saygı istiyorum.
Biraz bilinç istiyorum.
Ve en önemlisi…
İnsan gibi hissedebileceğim bir atmosfer istiyorum.

Belki Nepal’de…
Belki Bhutan’da…
Belki başka bir yerde…

Ama kesin olan bir şey var:

İnsan bazen kendi ruhunu kurtarabilmek için uzaklaşmak ister.
